How Do You Qualify To Be Part Of The PGA?

To qualify for the PGA, you must complete a PGA Tour golf tournament application and submit it along with the required tournament fee.

In addition, you will also need a current USGA Handicap Index not exceeding 2.4 and have competed in at least eight rounds of golf in the past 12 months. By meeting these requirements, you can participate in PGA Tour golf tournaments.

You must maintain a minimum status level to remain eligible upon qualifying for the PGA Tour. This is called the “Performance Standard,” and it may be attained by playing in a specified number of tournaments each year or through a total career winnings amount.

If you fail to meet this requirement, your status will drop one level, and you will be allowed an additional three tournaments to qualify again. If you are not able to attend all the events in a given season, you may apply for a special exemption.

This will allow you to participate in extended events without counting them toward your total number of tournaments allowed each year.

You may also request an exemption if you have played fewer than eight rounds of golf during the past 12 months; however, this will only be granted in exceptional circumstances and not for consecutive years.

One final way is a sponsor exemption which is when an unqualified player is asked to compete in a pro golf tournament by the competition’s official sponsor.
